Rough night

The first night after chemo is usually tough. And last night was no exception. But it wasn't as bad as it could have been. When I got home from the clinic I had a mild headache, and just didn't feel well. But I wasn't nauseated. I was able to eat some cheerios. I had a second bowl about 7Pm. And that was all I wanted. I had eaten at the clinic as I received my chemo. I brought a little cooler with my healthy food, egg salad sandwich, apples and cheese, yogurt. It's amazing that I can eat while receiving chemo.
As the evening progressed the headache became stronger but not unbearable. At 8:30 I took my usual syroquel, my nightly bipolar medication that makes me sleep like a baby. I took a couple of tylenol for the headache. For the next 4 hours the headache was worse. I tried a lot of different medications trying to find the right combo. I kept careful notes so as not to overmedicate myself.  After a couple of vicodin, some benedryl and more syroquel I finally went to sleep around 1AM.  Two hours later I woke up a little and suddenly had some stomach acids come up in my throat. It burned. I grabbed a glass of water and was able to dilute it before it did any damage. I realized that if I was lying flat it could happen again. So I got a couch cushion and propped myself up with pillows so my head would be elevated. That seemed to do the trick and I got several more hours of sleep.  I got up at 8AM. The headache is gone. I just feel a little groggy.
Time to start planning for Bruce and Katie and Oliver, who will be coming next week.  We are going to have a little get together to introduce Oliver to our friends here.
